Gumba commended the contractors fo quality work and executing the project within its timeframe.

“The houses are at 75 percent completion rate. This is the same in other districts such as Rumphi and Karonga,” he said.

Gumba admitted that the project faced payment challenges, but said government has rectified the problem by establishing an implementation management unit to ensure payment processes and monitoring are done with speed.

Nkhata Bay District Council chairperson Charge Phiri urged authorities in the district to borrow a leaf from the minister and monitor projects underway in the district to ensure quality.

“It is only when duty-bearers and authorities monitor projects that waste of resources is minimised,” he said.

CSI Group Construction project manager at Chintheche project site Esau Kaira said they were impressed and motivated that the Ministry of Lands had improved the payment system.
