Minister warns chiefs against corruption

Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Esther Majaza has warned  newly elevated chiefs in Kasungu to desist from corruption. 

The deputy minister made the call on Sunday during the installation of Traditional Authority (T/A) Simlemba and Sub-Traditional Authority (ST/A) Chaima and the elevation of ST/A Chikwa in the district.

Majaza said chiefs are supposed to work together with government to ensure there is development in the country.

“Corruption affects development in their areas, so, they should avoid it,” she said.

Majaza also said chiefs are custodians of acceptable traditions and cultures. 

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development director of chiefs administration Charles Makanga urged royal families in the district to resolve differences affecting chieftaincies.

“Families should sort out the issues to enable installation of chiefs to be handled without protestations,” he said.

T/A Chisemphere, who spoke on behalf of chiefs in the district, thanked government for installing and elevating chiefs in the district.

“The elevation of chiefs will help develop the district,” he said. The newly installed T/A Kapelula, real name Kumbukani Kadambo and ST/A Chaima, born Frazer Mwale, succeed previous chiefs who passed away while S/TA Chikwa, real name Martin Zimba has been elevated from group village head position.
