Ministry encourages healthy lifestyles
Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture has encouraged Malawians to embrace healthy lifestyles through physical fitness activities such as the annual Walk for Life initiative aimed at improving public health and productivity.
The initiative, under the African Union Sports Council Region 5, encourages people to take exercise as part of their daily routines.

Malawi on Saturday joined nine other southern African countries in promoting physical activity through the annual Walk for Life initiative.
The ministry’s director of Sports Justice Msopera said the walk was intended to inspire people to exercise regularly at home and in their communities.
“We encourage people to do physical activity to help their bodies to be strong so that they are able to be more productive,” he said.
Msopera said all 10 member States had agreed to implement the programme, urging people of all ages to embrace active lifestyles.
Malawi National Council of Sports chief executive officer Ivy Chinangwa said the initiative promoted sports, recreation and well-being.
She said the council will work with the ministry and the Malawi Olympic Committee to establish a date for the event to improve planning and participation.
Chinangwa expressed concern over the low turnout, saying a designated date on the national calendar would help raise awareness and attract more participants.
Health experts say that regular physical activity helps reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, while improving overall well-being.
