It looks like Lilongwe City Council has abandoned Area 10 Dam, which acted as a tourist attraction years back.

The dam which could have given the council revenue through several commercial activities such as fish farming and gate fees if it was fenced is now in a sorry state to the extent that it has namasupuni [water hyacinth] all over.

The dam was constructed for leisure by the Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC). Lilongwe City Council spokesperson Tamara Chafunya said the council is looking for resources to clean the dam.

She did not say what the council would do with the dam after the weeds are removed.—Thoko Chikondi,Staff Writer
