Mist over 2024 Sand Festival

Fun-seekers will have to wait a little longer to know the fate of this year’s Sand Music Festival set for end of September.

Impakt Events deputy director Jonny Zembani Banda said they are yet to meet to draw a way forward as the mourning period of the founder and former director Lucius Banda draws to a close.

It was like this last year

“The 44-day mourning has just elapsed few days ago. We could not do anything during this period. We need to sit down with the team to map the way forward. An announcement will be made thereafter,” he said.

On whether the event will proceed, Jonny said he could commit to say whether the event will take place or not.

In July, the organisers announced that this year’s event will take place from September 27 to 29 at the Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi. But there is a cloud of uncertainty following the passing on of Impakt Events director  and founder Lucius Banda on June 30.

The Sand Music Festival clocks 14 this year. In their earlier announcement, the organisers said local artists will headline this year’s event while international artists will come in as support.
