Moliati, Chazama in lightweight fight today
Chrispin Moliati and Salimu Chazama meet in the ring this afternoon at Lilongwe Community Centre ground in a lightweight title contest.
Moliati weighed in 50 kilogrammes whereas Chazama came in at 59 kilogrammes in the weighing ceremony at Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe last Saturday.
The two boxers have different fighting styles and that is what will make this an interesting fight.
Some of the many things Moliati excel in the ring are disrupting the timing of his opponents, quick counter-punching, as well as jabs that do not dominate, but serve as a good weapon. Moliati has great hand speed and excellent footwork to dodge punches and surprise his opponent. He uses space to keep distance.
On the other hand, Chazama uses sheer strength to land some good shots, is aggressive and does not easily retreat. He charges most times.
Chazama, too, has great footwork. He moves well, gets in and out quickly and takes smart angles which have proven hard for opponents.
If Chazama gets Moliati into the corner or on the ropes, he might have a chance for a knock-out work, considering his speed and power of his punches.
“People will watch a great fight. The two career boxers have unique styles. They don’t just fight for the sake of fighting, but fight to improve their rankings,” said New Dawn Boxing Promotions director Michael Chimaliza. n
