Moyale break Silver’shome record
Moyale Barracks yesterday broke the TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers home winning record after a 1-1 draw at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
This is the first time for Silver to drop points at home this season.
Moyale took the lead in the 23rd minute through Emmanuel Allan, but seven minutes later, the hosts equalised through Zebron Kalima.
The result is a setback to the Central Bankers’ title hopes. The result also means Silver have dropped four points in a possible six from their last two games. Before the international break, Silver were also held to a 1-1 draw against Chitipa United.
Silver now have 45 points and second-placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers are on 38 points. Both teams have played 19 games.
Silver coach Peter Mponda played down the draw, saying his team is still in control of its destiny.
“In terms of possession, we dominated. We also created chances, but we could not utilise them. I think the 1-1 draw is not a reflection of the game. We deserved to win. It has been a frustrating result,* he said.
Moyale’s coach Prichard Mwansa described the game as tough.
“It was a good, but difficult game but getting a point away is not easy. We witnessed good football from both sides. We had chances to make a difference but we could not score. I am not happy with 29 points. I believe we can do better. We will be winning the next games to be safe,” he said.
Moyale are in sixth position from 20 games.
In other matches, Mzuzu City Hammers lost 1-0 to Karonga United. Hammers are third with 31 points from 19 games. PremierBet Dedza Dynamos drew 1-1 against Creck Sporting Club.
