Flashback: Gonani (R) is challenged by a Moyale player

Moyale Barracks—buoyed by Mzuzu Stadium home crowd—need three unanswered goals today when they host TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers in a final first-round match.

For Moyale, it is not just about collecting three points, but deposing leaders Big Bullets on a superior aggregate.

With that, the league’s first round will end.

Silver coach Stain Chirwa admitted that challenging Moyale at home would be a tall order, but said he has the men to deliver. Last season, Silver, now placed 12th on 11 points from 12 games, beat Moyale. The Bankers faced Karonga United yesterday.

“They need the three-goal margin, but we just need any win. Getting points in Mzuzu is not a bigger challenge for us. The aim is to win both games and move out of the relegation zone,” said Chirwa.

The Bankers coach is buoyed by a clean bill of health for his regulars such as captain Lucky Malata, Rhodrick Gonani, Young Chimodzi Junior and Frank Banda who is back from national team engagements.

Three goals might on paper look impossible to score, but Moyale have this season proved capable of scoring even four goals, so the Bankers must watch out for snipers Dues Nkutu, who leads the Golden Boot chase on 11 goals at par with Red Lions’ Kumbukani Mwambene, and Gastin Simkonda.

Moyale narrowly missed last season’s championship which Silver won.
