Roman Catholic Christians have been advised to lead a transformed life and emulate the teachings of John the Baptist which he demonstrated to the world.

Priest for St Vincent Mwangata Parish, Father Cosmas Kinly, made the call last Saturday when he led a mass celebrating the life of John the Baptist at Malingamoyo-Chimwankhunda in Blantyre.

“We need to be bold enough and always speak the truth. John the Baptist was a humble man and led a transformed life. So let us also emulate his teachings and transform our lives for our own betterment,” said Father Kinly.

He also advised the church faithful to love and support each other to fortify the word of God.

Kinly observed that many small Christian communities were divided because of jealousy by some Christians against their leaders and advised the faithful to desist from such acts.

“Some Christians always try to pull their leaders down, this is bad. We need to be united and work as Christians, love and support each other,’’ advised Kinly.

“If a leader does something wrong, go and tell him or her directly. This is exactly what John the Baptist did to Herod Antipas after he married his brother’s wife.”

Father Kinly also encouraged Christians not to fear but speak with conviction on issues of national interest such as gay rights.

“God created a man and a woman and that was the first marriage that God showed to us. So if you marry your fellow man, are you going to produce gifts? Ask yourself why you are on earth?” wondered Kinly.
