Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe City Centre Constituency Alfred Jiya has pledged to ensure completion of road projects in the area as soon as possible.

He said this during his tour of Nsungwi Market in Area 25, which for a long time had a 1.5-kilometre stretch which was impassable during the rainy seasons.

He said: “We have about three road projects taking place namely the Kauma Road, Area 49 old Gulliver Road and Area 25C-Dzenza Road. The Nsungwi stretch was not in the 2021-2022 budget, but we used contingency money from the three projects which is about K100 million to construct this stretch.

“I believe people will now be relieved and come to do their businesses without worry at Nsungwi Market which is one of the biggest markets in this constituency. Also, road users will be free to use the road without hurdles.”

The MP said the other projects which had a duration of 150 days are taking shape and will be completed soon, as such, people in the area to have easy mobility as they go to work or various business ventures.

One of the business women at Nsungwi Market, Loveness Khonje, applauded the MP for the development saying her chicken business was suffering because people were not buying from her during rainy seasons.

“Customers found it hard to come to my bench. There was mud everywhere and it took loyal customers to continue buying from me. Otherwise, I now feel happy as I know the road will be good and customers will be coming in more often,” she said.
