Mphulla, Komakech win Nico General Golf

Kondwani Mphulla beat a field of over 80 golfers to win the Nico General Golf Championship played at Kasasa Golf Club in Dwangwa on Saturday.

The champion, after hole 18, netted 41 points and received a bar fridge for his milestone.

“It feels good to win here when there were so many golfers competing,” he said.

Colonel Chikunkha Soko came second. He bagged 37 points while Semu Chaula was third with 35 points.

Completing the list of winners was Mike Kalulu. In other awards, Ash Godambe was handed the nearest to the pin accolade while Cosmas Mwenewawo won the longest drive in men’s race.

Sandra Komakech was crowned champion in the ladies category after netting 33 points while Joshbed Mpanga, who also netted 33, came second after being counted out.

Ruth Mvula won the nearest to the pin accolade while Maina Mkandawire got the longest drive award.

Nico General chief executive officer (CEO) Eric Chapola said he was impressed with the golfers’ turnout.

“A lot of golfers expressed interest to come and play but we had to turn down some because we could not accommodate them,” he said.

Chapola also pledged that the company will sponsor the tournament next year.
