Silver Strikers Under-20 coach Leo Mpulula has stepped down after four years in charge at the Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored club’s senior and junior levels.

In a statement dated December 27 2023, the former Mighty Wakawaka Tigers coach said he would like to pursue new challenges.

Mpulula: My contract ends this month

Reads the statement in part: “It is with a heavy heart that I am writing you to inform you that I would not be extending my stay here as my contract ends this December.

“I would like to thank Silver board of directors, administration and the secretariat, players and supporters for the overwhelming support rendered to me during my four-year stay and working in the team at all levels.”

Mpulula further thanked Silver management for the experience and the knowledge he has gained.

“I have enjoyed the huge respect from all levels, gained great technical development, team management skills and players’ development skills. I loved the platform and space I was offered for learning, exploring and growth. I am humbled,” he said

Reacting to the news, Silver Strikers Company Limited secretary Peter Masiye said in an interview on Thursday Mpulula has helped the club a lot.

“First of all, we wish Mr Leo Mpulula all the best in his future endeavours. His contract is ending on 31st December and that he says he will not ask for renewal of his contract. The truth is he has helped us a lot and we appreciate what he has done,” he said.

Masiye, however, said Mpulula’s departure will not affect the operations of the club.

“We will not, however, be hugely affected as we have always been developing other coaches along in the football development system of our club and Mr. Mpulula also helped the club in this regard,” said Masiye.
