MTL Queens forfeit more points in OG Issa League

MTL Queens continued their generosity of donating points in the OG Issa Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) on Saturday after failing to turn up for their encounters against Alliance Capital Sisters and Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters.

Their absence at the match venue meant they have lost 150-0 to each of their opponents to remain stuck on the sixth position on the 15-team log-table with 24 points from 14 games.

This is the second time for MTL Queens to offer opponents free points. It was the same story over a month ago when they failed to travel to Zomba for their away encounter against leaders Prison Sisters, who granted them an historic defeat in the first-round.

Both MTL Queens coach Mary Waya and general secretary Christina Mkwanda, who are authorised to speak for the team, could not be reached for their comments after several attempts yesterday.

SRNL general secretary Annie Hanjahanja-Billie said she tried in vain to inquire about the reason behind MTL Queens’ failure to show up.

“I called Mary [Waya] to find out why they were not present at the match venue, but she referred me to their general secretary who could not be reached on her mobile number,” said Hanjahanja-Billie.

Nevertheless, defending champions Complex Tigresses kept on raising their bar on the league’s ladder. They thrashed Aquaid Queens 119-9 and Alliance Capital Sisters 82-32. They also earned a bonus 150-0 win over Airwing Sisters to move two steps up to the second slot with 41 points from 14 games.

Prison Sisters remain at the summit of the table with 42 points from 17 matches. Alliance Capital Sisters are third with 39 points from 18 fixtures whereas Diamonds, who beat Shizaella Sisters 79-19, are fourth with 34 points from 12 games. n
