Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) says it has finished the restructuring process that has resulted in some employees losing their jobs and has promised to be more responsive in service delivery.

MTL chief technical officer Herbert Maosa told journalists in Blantyre last week that the process has gone on smoothly and that the remaining staff is working on specifics to ensure good operations in each segment.

mtl“We finished the restructuring process on June 30 and we have adopted a new system that emphasises on departmental performance. There are specific people per segment and their role is to ensure services offered by their segment are efficient,” he said.

According to a conclusion analysis of the restructuring process, 32 employees were retrenched on voluntary basis while 176 positions were affected and some were filled by more than one person. A total of 330 people were affected with 112 retrenched and 218 transferred to new positions.

Maosa said the retrenched employees have received their benefits, adding that staff reshuffle in several segments has necessitated the need for additional training of some employees to enhance performance.

While admitting that the restructuring process affected seven of its services providing points which are closed, he assured the public that they are able to solve any complaint within 48 hours after being notified as before.

But Maosa lamented sabotage and vandalism of their equipment, saying this affects the quality of their services.
