Comedy and music took the centre stage when the week-long MultiChoice Africa content showcase drew to a close on Friday.

The show, which saw a number of African celebrities descending on the island of Mauritius under Comedy Central and MTV Base DStv channels, was one epic night as patrons got a first-hand dosage of what these television stations do.

There was a thunderous applause when MC of the night, MTV Base’s Nomuzi Mabena, introduced South Africa’s Kagiso Lediga as the first on the Comedy Central stage.

However, the spirits fast went low as some people found his jokes, not palatable due to vulgar language.

This resulted in Lediga, generally appealing to the Western audience and not Africans.

Patrick ‘Salvador’ Idringi from Uganda was next with his real life jokes sending the jam-packed Trou Aux Biches beach marquee into uncontrollable laughter.

The fans looked very impressed with the jokes that centred on women, children and sex.

Music was up next with the South African group the Beatenburg first with a performance of three songs with many people who were beginning to be intoxicated dancing wildly.

DJ Vigilante moved to the turntables before taking a bow an hour later with DJ Clock taking over.

After a number of dance moves from a group of Mauritian ladies, Nigeria’s Patoranking came on stage with two reggae tunes which only a few danced to. The mood was so low and the genre only appealed to a few of the close to 500 people.

Perhaps the surprise of the night was a performance by Angola’s duo, Yuri Da Cunha which, despite being not very known by many, their danceable tunes including the Portuguese version of Y’tjukutja by South African band Uhuru sent the audience into uncontrollable fun.

While the night was still young for many with a few heading to bed, Nigeria’s DJ Humility took over the decks and dished out some of the top African hits till people were sizzled up.
