South Africa-based Flames first-choice goalkeeper Brightone Munthali has started playing for second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship side Black Leopards after acquiring a work permit.

Lack of the document reduced the goaltender to a sideshow for almost two-and-a-half months after joining Leopards on loan from Malawi Police Service side Blue Eagles.

Munthali: It feels good to be back in action

Leopards coach Peter Mponda confirmed that his compatriot has since started playing.

He said: “He has played three games now and despite being on the sidelines for a while, he is doing well.

“He has fitted in well and remains focused.”

In an interview, Munthali said he was excited when he finally obtained the document.

He said: “It was frustrating just to stay and wait for the document without knowing when it would be ready. But I remained focused and concentrated on training, knowing that the coach and management were pushing.

“It’s good to be back in the field of play and I am eager to impress.”
