Music Crossroads Malawi has rolled out Imagine competition that will identify and showcase outstanding young music talent from across the country.
According to communication from Music Crossroads Malawi, the competition is set for July 11 and 12 and will culminate in the selection of one act to represent Malawi at the Imagine International Final in Brussels, Belgium.
“Imagine Competition Malawi forms part of the global Imagine Music Experience, an international programme that brings together young musicians from participating countries for performances, cultural exchange, learning opportunities and artistic collaboration,” reads their statement in part.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Music Crossroads Malawi programmes manager Angellah Zulanga said the purpose of the competition is to identify, nurture and promote talented young artists by providing them with a platform to showcase their creativity and gain valuable performance experience.
She said: “The competition aims to empower young people through music, encourage originality and artistic expression and create opportunities for cultural exchange and professional development.
“The competition also seeks to connect Malawian youths with a global network of young musicians to foster collaboration, intercultural understanding and international exposure.”
Zulanga said after submitting applications, a panel of music professionals will review them and shortlist the deserving acts based on talent, originality, performance quality and artistic potential.
She added shortlisted artists will then compete in the national finals scheduled for July 11 and 12 before the judging panel. The participants will be evaluated on musical ability, originality, stage presence, artistic identity and overall performance.
“The competition is important because it creates meaningful opportunities for young musicians to develop their talent, gain professional experience and build confidence through performance,” said Zulanga.
She said the winner will receive preparation and orientation support ahead of the international event, including guidance on performance readiness, cultural exchange, and international participation requirements.
Imagine Competition is a programme of Jeunnesses Musicale International (JMI) and is implemented by Music Crossroads Malawi as JMI National member.
