Scores of youths in the country have had problems in making decisions about their careers and the future. This is coupled with the fact that employers complain that youths graduating from colleges do not properly perform to industry expectations.

In short, there is a high mismatch between young employees and their work resulting in many employers opting for well experienced personnel.music-crossroads

In trying to address the problem, newly established Organisation for Career Guidance (OCG), together with Music Crossroads Malawi (MCM) has jointly organised a career guidance fair.

Under the theme ‘Career Decision; A Crisis Among the Youth’, the fair has been organised to encourage secondary school students to attain tertiary education and their future dreams.

According to MCM communications officer Elizabeth Karonde, the fair is in response to gaps both organisations which work with several secondary schools in the city of Lilongwe have noted among students.

“This memorable and the first of its kind in Malawi, will take place at Music Crossroads Malawi Campus in Area 23 in Lilongwe on May 16 from 9 am. The two organisations have invited 20 secondary schools from Lilongwe that fall under their catchment area where each school will bring 20 students accompanied by their teachers.

She added not only will students benefit but also the stakeholders as they will have a chance of selling themselves to the public in terms of their services.

“On the day, there shall be motivational speakers from different careers, including those that others neglect as not careers at all, with an aim of communicating that every career is important if properly chosen and managed.

“This event is also an opportunity for different tertiary institutions to sell their programmes and market themselves to students and parents that shall be present at the function as well as the nation, as the event shall be beamed on television and broadcast by media houses that OCG and MCM have partnered with,” she said.
