A concert organised by Musicians Union Malawi (MUM) Southern Region Chapter has raised about K1.6 million, organisers have said.

The concert took place at Mibawa Multipurpose Hall in Limbe on Monday night.

In an interview, MUM Southern Region chairperson Phyzix, real name Noel Chikoleka, said they are now in the process of buying relief items.

Phyzix: We are truly honoured and grateful

“We have identified a camp that has not been getting much support. We will buy relief items and deliver them directly to survivors,” he said.

Phyzix said the venture, which was jointly done with Mibawa Television, also saw individuals donating materials which will be donated alongside what they will buy.

“We are truly grateful and honoured for the overwhelming support that we received from Malawians towards the cause,” he said.

The rapper said those still willing to donate can do so, adding that fans are also welcome to join them on the road trip to donate as they will announce the date, time of departure and other details.

“It is open to the public since they are the ones who donated the items. Our fans are more than welcome,” he said.

During the concert, MUM secretary general Tony Chimatimati said as a union they felt duty-bound to hold the concert to raise funds for those in need.

Musicians such as Ethel Kamwendo-Banda, Princess Chitsulo, Gibo Peason, Sam Smacks, Tuno, Zeze Kingstone, Steve Muliya, King James Phiri and many other took turns to perform for patrons at the venue as well as those who were watching on Mibawa Television.
