Muslim Sisters Youth Organisation (MUSYO) Eastern Region chapter recently distributed goats, sugar and soap to inmates at Zomba Maximum Security Prison as part of Eid-ul-Adha celebrations.

MUSYO chairperson Jamila Shareef said her organisation donated food and sanitation items because Islam encourages sharing, especially during the Eid-ul-Adha festivities when Muslims are supposed to slaughter animals and distribute the meat to the needy.

“We wanted to show that we have not forgotten the inmates. We know that this time some would have been with their families slaughtering animals. That is why we thought of coming here to share with them whatever we have so that they can also enjoy this Eid,” said Shareef.

Speaking on behalf of inmates, Abdulmalick Chapuma hailed the Muslim sisters, saying the donation meant a lot to them.

“The meat will help us as we celebrate this year’s Eid –ul – Adha season with joy. May the Almighty Allah bless this organisation,” said Chapuma.

The organisation distributed 100 goats to both male and female inmates while 45 packets of sugar and 78 tablets of soap were distributed to female inmates only.
