MW2063 MIP-1 review underway

National Planning Commission (NPC) says it is conducting a mid-term review of the Malawi 2063 (MW2063) First 10-Year Implementation Plan (MIP-1) to assess its progress.

NPC outgoing director general Thomas Chataghalala Munthali said this on Tuesday in Lilongwe at a dialogue session conducted by the Malawi School of Government (MSG).

He said MIP-1, which was launched in 2020, is designed to be reviewed every five years to ensure that short and medium-term targets are followed through.

He said: “You will notice that the MW2063 is well outlined with each enabler articulated in terms of the quick gains.

“This is why its implementation is designed in 10-year plans. .”

Munthali said institutions such as MSG should be streamlined to assist in developing human capital that clearly understands their role in the plan, adding that for the key sectors targeted by the vision to perform, there is need for human resources.

Minister of Higher Education Jessie Kabwila said there is need to make MW2063 more visible to people at the local level as they are central to its effective implementation.

“We should decentralise the MW2063 agenda. It must not be the Capital Hill thing and it must not be something that just resides in Lilongwe,” she said.

MW2063 aspires to develop Malawi into a lower middle-income economy by 2030 and an upper middle-income economy by 2063.
