Malawi Queens legendary shooter Mwawi Kumwenda-M’bwana has extended her contract with Australian club Peninsula Waves for the 2027 season.
The club confirmed the development on Friday, describing the veteran goal shooter as a “superstar” and praising her contribution during the 2026 season.

“Mwawi Kumwenda was instrumental throughout 2026, proving time and time again to be our ultimate rock under the post with her trademark reliability and clinical accuracy,” Waves said in a statement:
The contract extension comes after Mwawi showcased her world-class talent at the 2026 Commonwealth Games where she was among the top scorers.
Peninsula Waves said they were delighted to retain the experienced shooter, who they described as loyal and committed to the club.
The club further said: “Fresh off a spectacular Commonwealth Games campaign where she showcased her world-class talent on the global stage, we couldn’t be more excited to have her back in the Waves colours. Loyal and committed to her Waves family, Mwawi is ready to keep building something special with this incredible group.”
On her part, Mwawi said she was excited to continue her journey with the Waves.
“I am very excited to re-sign with Peninsula Waves and I am looking forward to the 2027 season and beyond,” said the 2014 Netball World Cup Player of the Tournament.
To celebrate her contract extension, Mwawi also donated a full set of uniforms to her former club Kukoma Diamonds’ reserve side.
The Queens star used the gesture to encourage the young players to work hard and believe that they too can reach the highest levels of the sport.
Said the two-time Commonwealth Games top scorer: “Wear these uniforms with pride. Work hard, respect each other, and believe in your dream. If I made it from Kukoma to the world, you can too. This is just the beginning for you.
“This is your moment. Let these kits remind you that greatness starts right here. Train hard. Play with heart. Make us proud.”
Meanwhile, Netball Association of Malawi (NAM), has congratulated Mwawi for the new deal
“Congratulations, Mwawi Kumwenda! We wish you great success in the season ahead. Keep inspiring, keep shining, and keep making Malawi proud,” NAM said in statement.
