Professional netballer Mwawi Kumwenda organised a Frooty Orange Squash party with her Penninsula Waves teammates in Australia to celebrate their Saturday’s 54-50 victory over North East Blaze at Notre Dame College’s netball court.

Mwawi, whose 48 baskets in the match have helped to push Waves to the top of the table in the Victorian Netball League (VNL), said that she organised the party to promote the local brand.

Mwawi was named ambassador for Universal Industries Limited’s brand early this year before she left for Australia for a second contract with the Waves.

In a telephone interview on Tuesday, the 22-year-old Malawi Queens star said she kept some of her Frooty Orange Squash for a special occasion she could happily sell the local brand among her teammates.

“As an ambassador, I found it proper to organise a party and enjoy the beverage with my teammates and friends in Australia at this time when we are comfortably leading the league. It was a way of saying thank you to the company and a way of expressing my joy at our team’s success,” she said.

Mwawi’s team has won all their first four encounters to lead the 12-team league with 12 points.
