Mzuzu City Hammers offload six players
Mzuzu City Hammers Football Club have released six players ahead of the kick-off of the 2026 NBS Bank National Division League, the club has announced.
The team, which will kick-off the season against Bangwe All Stars tomorrow at Rumphi Stadium, will be without Mustafa Jack Maulana, Eddie Jamu, Chisomo Sambani Banda, Brian Phiri, Patrick Banda and Oblak Mwakisambwe.

Mzuzu City Hammers general secretary Benjamin Thole in an interview said they released the players because they did not fit in their plans
He said: “It is a normal process. We have to release some players who do not fit our plans this new season as we take part in the National Division League. We wish them well in their new lives.”
One of the released players, Maulana, said he has accepted the decision and looks forward to playing for a new club.
“I am aware of the development. I have to move on with my career at a new club,” he said.
Despite relegation from the top-flight league, Hammers delivered an outstanding performance last season in the Ibongetse Castel Cup, knocking out the cup’s defending champions Mighty Wanderers in the quarter-finals with nine men on the pitch.
They went on to lose to eventual champions FCB Nyasa Bullets in the semi-finals.
