Mzuzu City Rangers (MCR) on Saturday beat Area 1B 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium to reach the third round of the K30 million Carlsberg Cup.

After beating Golden Stars 4-1 last week in their opening match, Area 1B started the Saturday game on a promising note, but were derailed by MCR’s first goal, which came 23 minutes into the first-half through a Noah Kaisi header. Francis Nohito grabbed the winner in the 85th minute.

“We underperformed today because our forwards were just powerless,” Area 1B caretaker coach Chimwemwe Swira said in an interview after the match.

On his part, MCR coach Sekerani Mumba thanked God for the victory.
