Mzuzu hosts PIS darts finals this weekend

The Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) has announced that this year’s Presidential Initiative on Sports (PIS) finals will take place at Chenda Hotel in Mzuzu on Saturday and Sunday.

In an interview on Tuesday, DAM general secretary Joe Zangazanga said all is set for the finals.

“The finals are really in the North this weekend. All teams have confirmed that they are ready for the finals. As Dam, we are happy with how the tournament is running and we expect to watch top-class performance in the finals,” said Zangazanga.

Eight teams in men’s category and six in ladies’ category from the host Mzuzu and District Darts League (MDDL), Lilongwe and District Darts League (LDDL) and Blantyre and District Darts League (BDDL) will battle it out in the finals.

MDDL and LDDL have contributed two teams each to both categories and BDDL has contributed four teams in men’s category and two in ladies category.

MDDL will be represented by Mzimba and Kaning’ina in men’s category and Mzuzu Select 1 and 2 in ladies; LDDL has Capital Glass and Joe’s Motel in the men’s group while Chiwoko and Mafco Ladies are in the ladies category. BDDL has Blantyre Sports Club A, defending champions Elvis Freight CCL, White Eagles and Staff Development Institute (SDI) in the men’s group. Their ladies’ teams are Libra and White Eagles.

A cool K75 000 (about $350) awaits champions in the men’s category, runners-up will receive K50 000 (about $200) and K30 000 (about $120) is for third-place. In ladies’ category, winners will pocket K40 000 (about $160) whereas losers will get K25 000 (about $100). Third-placed team will receive K15 000 (about $60).

Players to watch on the day in men’s category are John Kamboga of Joe’s Motel and Soka Banda of Elvis Freight CCL.
