NAM has shelved its plans to appoint veteran tactician Griffin ‘Zagallo’ Saenda as technical director.

Last week, the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) announced that Saenda would head the Queens coaching panel as technical director while former stars—Mary ‘Atcheya’ Waya and Peace Chawinga-Kalua—would be co-coaches.

However, NAM president Rosy Chinunda on Wednesday said they had shelved the plans and Saenda would remain head coach for the Queens.

“As we are waiting to finalise the process of hiring a permanent coaching panel, it was agreed that Saenda should continue his role as head coach with Mary and Peace as his assistants,” said Chinunda.

Asked about progress regarding the hiring of a permanent coaching panel, Chinunda said: “We are in the process of finalising the ToRs [terms of reference] and job descriptions for the TD as well as the coaches.

“We also included it in the proposed budget that was presented to government.”

She said Saenda will be in charge of the Queens during the African Netball Associations (ANA) Championship to be staged in Blantyre from June 24-29.
