The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) and the Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) have condemned the recent insecurity developments rocking the country urging authorities to step up efforts aimed at ensuring that people’s right to security, free speech and trading are fully guaranteed.

In a press Statement signed by NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe and HRCC Chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba, the two condemned what they described as serious cases which include the breaking into the office of Father Peter Mulomole of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) and the Kapiri incident in Lilongwe where people burnt Police property and vehicle in response to loss of life that happened two days before the incident.

The human rights organisations also condemned the actions by the citizens of Kapiri for taking the law into their own hands and have since appealed to the Police and courts to mete out appropriate punishments to the offenders to send a strong message that violence and lawlessness do not have a place in a democratic state.

They have also cautioned the Police to revert to their professional ethics and refresh their practices to their call of duty and mandate.
They demanded what they call a genuinely reformed Police founded on the democratic dictates of ethics, integrity and professionalism.
