New council chairperson Kalua pledges delivery
Newly-appointed Malawi National Council of Sports board chairperson Jim Kalua has promised to deliver alongside his team.
The Football Legends Association of Malawi chairperson was appointed the council’s board chairperson alongside eight other board members with effect from December 9, according to a statement signed by Chief Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi.

The other members are Escort Chinula, Flackson Walapa , Dora Mangulama , Rose Kaombe, Wesley Mwafulirwa, Senior Chief Njolomole , Alice Misomali and Chris Sukasuka .
In an interview yesterday, Kalua thanked President Peter Mutharika for entrusting him with the task.
He said: “I will work to the best of my ability to ensure that we improve sports, but to achieve that, I will need the support of the council’s board, management, staff, affiliates and the entire sports fraternity.
“My approach is always team-work and failure has never been an option. I will ensure that I deliver.
“To achieve our goals, we all need to pull in the same direction.”
Kalua said where there are shortfalls, he will ensure that they are fixed.
“And I know that I have a football background, but I am here to support all sports codes,” he said.
“My leadership is always inclusive and objectivity is key.”
Kalua has replaced Sunduzwayo Madise, whose tenure expired alongside other board members.
In an interview, Ministry of Youth and Sports spokesperson Macmillan Mwale said: “We welcome them on board. We are ready to work with them and guide where there is need for the betterment of sports. We wish them all the best.”
