At least two Malawian players should have earned nomination for Glo-CAF 2013 Player –of-the-Year awards, football scout Kondie Msungama has noted.

“I would single out Robert Ng’ambi and Joseph Kamwendo. It is unfortunate they did not make the list.

They have represented us well on the international scene. But generally, our football lacks exposure. We drink Mzuzu coffee and watch football on television when our colleagues are playing on Fifa calendar dates,” Msungama noted, seemingly referring to the inactive Flames and local clubs that have since 2004 not participated in CAF club competitions.

In a separate interview, National Coaches Committee general secretary Charles Manda yesterday said Malawian players might have missed the nominations because the local league is not beamed on international television channels such as SuperSport.

Ng’ambi is eyeing South Africa’s Player-of-the-Year Award for the second year running.

He is currently the highest scoring midfielder in the Absa Premiership. He has also won the most man of match awards this season in addition to steering his Platinum Stars to MTN8 Cup glory and taking the club to Telkom Knockout semi-final.

On the other hand, Kamwendo inspired his former side Liga Maculmana of Mozambique to Mocambola League championship, CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup group stages for the first time.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the list of players dominated by North and West Africans.

Zambia and South Africa have a fair share of nominees such as Rainford Kalaba (TP Mazembe), Lennox Bacela, Senzo Meyiwa and Daine Klate (Orlando Pirates).
