NGO dates partners on project advocacy plan
Pamoza Tingakwaniska Youth Organisation in Karonga Districts has emphasised the need for collaboration with stakeholders if sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services, peace building and sexual gender-based violence (SGBV) issues are to be fully addressed.
The organisation’s programmes manager Gomezgani Mhango said this on Monday at the end of a four-day meeting held in Chitipa District that brought together Karonga-based government agencies, civil society organisations, religious and traditional leaders to discuss its four-year strategic plan on Peace Building project, SRHR services and SGBV.
Mhango said some councils such as Karonga lack district and community advocacy strategies on SRHR, SGBV, peace building and conflict prevention.
She said: “We believe that a plan can shape the district’s approach to addressing SRHR, SGBV prevention and peace building and conflict prevention.”
Karonga District Peace and Unity Committee secretary Aaron Mwenilupembe highlighted that from May 2022 to April 2023, witnessed a surge in conflict cases such as land disputes, chieftaincy wrangles and witchcraft accusations; hence, the meeting was crucial.
With support from United Nations Secretary General’s Peace Building Fund through United Nations Population Fund, the organisation is implementing Strengthening Malawi’s Peace Infrastructure project aimed at tackling conflict prevention and sustaining peace in borderland districts such as Karonga.
