NGO donates fertiliser to farmers

Khalsa Aid International has distributed NPK and Urea starter-pack fertilisers to 2 000 farmers in Mulanje, Phalombe and Chiradzulu districts.

Speaking on Tuesday in Traditional Authority Nkanda in Mulanje, the organisation’s country coordinator Mussa Kachala said they wanted to help farmers improve their yield.

“We gave each farmer a 10-kilogramme [kg] bag of NPK and a 10kg of Urea. We also gave them maize seeds. We have been helping people for many years and we will continue to do so,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Agnes Makwakwa said she had no fertliser to apply to her garden.

“These days we cannot get much yield without applying fertliser to our gardens. This year, the prices of fertiliser have risen and we cannot afford,” she said.

In October, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) also donated food packs to at least 1 200 families in Thyolo.

The NGO also drilled boreholes, distributed exercise books in various schools, donated menstrual hygiene packs to girls and renovated concrete floors in classrooms.

Khalsa Aid is an international NGO that provides humanitarian aid in disaster-prone areas and conflict zones around the world.

It is based upon the Sikh principle of Recognise the whole human race as one.
