NGO-GCN tips female aspirants on strategies

NGO-Gender Coordination Network (NGO-GCN) has tipped female aspiring candidates in Nkhata Bay on campaign strategies to increase their chances of winning the September 16 General Election.

Speaking on Tuesday after a meeting with the aspiring candidates in Nkhata Bay, NGO-GCN member Dorothy Chiumia said most women fail to make it because they lack confidence to win people’s hearts with their manifestos.

She said they are there to empower women aspirants with effective communication skills to showcase their manifestos and ideas.

“Our emphasis is on the importance of issue-based campaign rather than handouts. This approach ensures that voters understand the value and vision of each aspirant,” said Chiumia.

She, therefore, assured aspirants of continued support with various capacity building skills as it is their hope to see more women attain leadership positions.

Nkhata Bay West aspiring parliamentarian Mercy Limbani Kaunda (Alliance for Democracy) said the initiative came at a time she needed confidence and skills to run a campaign.

“The training has given us an opportunity to strategise on how we can sell our ideas to voters to earn their trust,” she said.

Nkhata Bay district principal gender development officer Lawrence Matiti said there are two female ward councillors out of 12 wards and one female member of Parliament out of six constituencies in the district; hence, the need to vote for more.
