NGO targets remote areas, raises funds for motorcycles
Muona Foundation president William Allan says they are targeting to expand their interventions to remote areas in Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje.
He said this on Saturday when his organisation conducted a 20-kilometre big walk from Muona-Fatima in Nsanje District to Thekerani in Thyolo District aimed at raising K6.5 million to buy two motorcycles for the foundation’s volunteers.
Said Allan: “We need two motorcycles for our volunteers to go to hard-to-reach areas such as Mchaka, Gatoma, Alufazema, Aironi and Thaboni.
“We are implementing different projects ranging from providing desks to schools, constructing school blocks, sponsoring needy secondary school students, providing vocational skills to the youth and emergency support during disasters.”
Trinity College of Health Science principal Godrick Chipondeponde said he participated in the march because the organisation supports the college in different ways, including paying school fees for needy students.
“The organisation also stocked our library with books,” he said.
Another participant in the march, businessperson Mpandeni Dafuta said the foundation supports them with irrigation equipment; hence, joining the fundraising initive.
“I have also contributed financially towards the cause because I know the impact their interventions will have in the targeted areas,” he said.
One of the volunteers, Alinafe Nedi, a nursing student at Trinity College of Health Sciences in Nsanje, said she will work with the organisation to achieve its goals of uplifting lives in T/A Mlolo.
“When volunteers have motorcycles, they will reach many people who need assistance in various areas,” she said
