Nice hails MP for bridge project

 National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has commended Thyolo North legislator Ephraim Nayeja (Democratic Progressive Party) for embarking on a bridge project to ease people’s mobility challenges.

The bridge across Nkhame River will be constructed using K20 million from Constituency Development Fund and will connect people from Sakoma and Manjolo villages in traditional authorities Thomas and Bvumbwe in the district.

Nice empowered the communities to approach their parliamentarian to construct the bridge.

Speaking on Monday after touring the project site, Thyolo Nice programme officer Moses Kaunda commended the lawmaker for attending to the people’s request.

He said: “This is good because the road connects people from Sakoma and Manjolo to Bvumbwe

Trading Centre, health facilities, schools, among other social amenities.

“I also thank the people for showing patriotism, hard-working spirit and commitment to embark on the road maintenance project on their own without waiting for government.”

In his remarks, Nayeja said he accepted the request because the bridge connects people from Sakoma and Manjolo villages to Bvumbwe where they access essential services, such as market, schools and health centre.

“I was also motivated by people’s patriotism in community work. I am happy to join them,” he said.

Group village heads Sakoma and Manjolo expressed happiness with the construction of the bridge.

“Some pregnant women are delivering at home because cars cannot take them to hospital,” said Sakoma.
