Nico Holdings Limited and the National Youth Council of Malawi (Nycom) have begun assessing youth organisations which were nominated for the Nico Young Achievers Awards.

The award is a restoration of a similar award organised a decade ago by the two entities to create awareness of massive contributions young people in Malawi towards attainment of national development.

Nycom programmes officer for research and evaluation Promise Matatiyo said in an interview on Thursday the assessment targets entrepreneurship and agriculture from different youth organisations that applied.

“Over 500 applications were separated during an eligibility assessment which involved selection depending on the requirements and conditions for being considered a youth organisation, and were submitted to a nominations team,” said Matatiyo.

Nico Holdings Limited corporate affairs manager Mbumba Mlia said the awards ceremony is expected to be held in April 2013 at the Presidential Hotel in Lilongwe.
