Nigerian football player Olashipe James Tolulope arrived in the country on Wednesday and has started one-month trials at Be Forward Mighty Wanderers.

The 22-year-old, who played for South Africa Premier Soccer League outfit Chippa United in 2011 and claims to have earned Nigeria Under-20 national team call-ups then, has joined the Nomads as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Nigerian Premier League side Ibadan FC.

“I am a natural left-footer, but I am capable of using both legs and I can feature in many positions in the field including left-back and attacking midfield. Playing football is not a problem to me and I hope Wanderers will like my services,” said Tolulope, whose air-ticket was bought by his father.

According Prince Jere, who has facilitated the Nigerian’s arrival at Wanderers through Cameroonian players’ agent FlavienTchoumbou, he met Tolulope in South Africa in 2011 and the player had always wanted to play in Malawi since then.

Wanderers’ chairperson George Chamangwana welcomed the player, but said they would not comment much until they monitor the abilities of the player during their training sessions.

“He will be like any player fighting for a place in our team. If he impresses our technical panel, we will take him on board,” Chamangwana said.

The coming in of the Nigerian at the Lali Lubani Road has put the number of Wanderers’ trialists to 36.

The team’s coach Elia Kananji told The Nation few days ago that the squad will be trimmed to 25 players in three weeks. If he successfully makes it into the final squad at Wanderers, Tolulope will be the second foreigner to play in the next TNM Super League as Silver Strikers signed Ghanaian footballer Saiwo recently.
