Nomads, Creck on fire

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers yesterday showed no mercy as they whitewashed Mzuzu City Hammers 8-0 in a one-sided encounter at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Creck Sporting Club also netted eight past Baka City at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji without a response from the Karonga-based outfit.

The Nomads’ triumph is sweet revenge after they lost 2-0 to the Mzuzu-based outfit in the first-round.

However, the result has not changed the gap between the Nomads and runaway leaders Silver Strikers, who left it late to collect full points against Karonga United at Karonga Stadium, thanks to a last-minute  goal by striker Stain Davie.

Chirwa rounds off Jamu to score

While Silver were made to sweat blood to collect full points, Wanderers had a goal galore, scoring eight past Mzuzu City Hammers goalkeeper Eddie Jamu to register their biggest scoreline this season.

It all started from the spot when Isaac Kaliati netted the opener following a foul by Gift Maulana on Cameroonian Sama Thierry Tanjong in the box.

Kaliati then doubled the lead in the 29th minute after he was set up by Clement Nyondo.

Thierry made it 3-0 in the 38th minute before Nyondo scored 4-0 in the 42nd minute for the first half to end.

With four goals down at half-time, Mzuzu City Hammers needed a miracle to come back into the game.

But the miracle never happened as they conceded four more goals in the second-half.

Nyondo made it a brace in 55th minute before substitute Mphatso Kamanga registered his first goal.

Another substitute Gaddie Chirwa made it 7-0 in the 78th minute while Mischeck Bottoman wrapped up the day with his 90th minute goal.

In a post-match interview, Mzuzu City Hammers coach Kondwani Ikwanga was lost of words.

He said: “Football has got a lot of things. We missed it at the back. Everyone was not communicating. They were second around the balls and they were not even creating spaces. Should I come out from the touchline and go and play? I mean, I’ve done my job, but wow, this is what football is all about.”

For Silver coach Peter Mponda, the victory over Karonga United came as a surprise after the hosts dominated play.

“I don’t think we deserve these three points. Karonga played well the whole 90 minutes. But sometimes you need luck,” he said.

The results mean Silver still maintain their nine-point gap at the top of the table.

In other matches, Creck Sporting were on fire as they hammered Baka City 8-0 to move to third position with goals from Harvey Nasiyaya, Anorld Kiyama, Yamikani Tambala, Peter Godfrey, Gift Kadawa and a hat-trick from George Chaomba.

Civil Service United also hammered Chitipa United 4-0 with Festus Duwe netting a hat-trick while Blessings Malinda scored the other goal.

Bangwe All Stars also collected full points after beating Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos 2-1 at Balaka Stadium.
