Nomads crush BB over Kananji

In a dramatic twist to coach Elia Kananji’s saga, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers have come out with their guns blazing accusing their rivals Big Bullets of dragging them in the controversy.

This follows Bullets general secretary Harold Fote’s remarks in an interview with The Nation that they will not afford their former coach’s demands as he has been offered better perks by the Nomads.

“Kananji showed me a text message sent by Wanderers offering him a salary of K200 000 and we cannot afford to match that and in such circumstances, then I am afraid, we will not, regrettably, make a counter-offer,” said Fote.

But his Wanderers counterpart Mike Butao said there is no grain of truth in Bullets’ claims.

“It is not true, we have not even met to discuss the technical panel composition yet.

“Someone at BB seems to be obsessed with confrontations with Wanderers. I am the GS and head of technical panel. I am the only one who could have contacted Kananji and I am smart enough not to do it through SMS.

“Let Bullets sort out Kananji’s issue honourably without implicating Wanderers. We will not be dragged into that old-fashioned way of running football,” said Butao.

Kananji was recently demoted from the position of head coach to second assistant coach by Bullets on the basis that he does not possess a CAF coaching licence.

Kananji has since then been linked with moves to other big teams such as Azam Tigers, Silver Strikers and more recently Mighty Be Forward Wanderers.
