This afternoon Standard Bank Knockout Cup quarter-final match between Moyale Barracks and Mighty Wanderers brings some interesting facts.

Moyale Barracks coach Nicholas Mhango and his Nomads counterpart Gerald Phiri yesterday sat next to each other as team manager and coach for the Junior Flames respectively on the same cause to try and see off Zambia in the quest to qualify for the 2015 Africa Youth Championship.

Barely 24 hours later, they will be on opposing sides and where they shared joy or sorrow yesterday, today it will be different as one of them will leave Mzuzu Stadium smiling, having moved forward while the other will be disappointed.

Similarly, a fortnight ago, Moyale’s goaltender McDonald Harawa steered the Flames to qualify for the group stages of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations when he kept out two penalties and his substitute was Wanderers first-choice keeper Richard Chipuwa.

After the match, Chipuwa rushed to congratulate Harawa with a warm hug, but today it will be different as one of them will be filled with joy after a win while the other will be downcast after failing to move forward.

Both teams have won the cup twice although the Nomads enjoy a slight edge having won the inaugural tournament before Standard Bank came in.

Moyale won the first-round league game 2-0.
