Joda-Mbewe: Malawi will be on agenda

Malawi will next month host a week-long international conference on the relationship between churches and specialised ministries.

Malawi Council of Churches (MCC) general secretary the Reverend Osborne Joda-Mbewe said on Tuesday that the conference will take place from September 4 to 10 2014 in Mangochi.

Joda-Mbewe said specialised ministries refer to diaconal or sectoral ministries or departments within the World Council of Churches (WCC).

He said WCC organised the conference, which will attract around 100 delegates from United States of America, Cuba, Norway, Switzerland, Russia, Korea, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Mbewe, who is also heading the event’s national coordinating committee, said other delegates will come from Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Tanzania, United Kingdom, Burkina Faso, India, Serbia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Argentina, Ethiopia, Syria, Congo, the Caribbean, Finland, Colombia, Sweden, Canada and Malawi.

He said dignitaries will, among other things, have a special session on Malawi to allow delegates interface with local congregations in areas where the WCC has projects benefiting local communities.

WCC is a global umbrella of church councils based in Geneva, Switzerland which seeks to fulfill a common calling of churches that confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour .
