Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ poor run continued in the 2024 TNM Super League after registering a 2-0 loss to Mzuzu City Hammers yesterday at Mzuzu Stadium.

The Nomads loss follows another one last week to Silver Strikers by  the same margin.

Hammers’ Isaac Msiska scored both goals. He scored the first goal in the 19th minute and the second in the 45th minute.

Despite the hosts leading in the first half, the Nomads dominated in the second half but found it hard to create chances.

The victory has seen Hammers moving up to second position with 16 points from eight games. They have won five games, drawn once and lost two.

On the other hand, the Nomads are stuck on position four. They have 13 points from eight games as well. They have won three, drawn three and lost two as well.

In a post-match interview, Hammers coach Elias Chirambo said he is happy that his charges played as instructed.

“We are happy for the win. We have sponsors in place and it is necessary that we win the title. We played well today and managed to protect the two goals we got,” he said.

Mighty Wanderers technical panel refused to grant post-match media interviews.

In another match, Silver beat Karonga United 4-2. Uchizi Vunga opened the Bankers scoresheet in the fifth minute.

Karonga United’s Saulos Moyo equalised in the 23rd minute to end the half one-all.

But the Central Bankers restored their lead in the 70th minute through Mark Fodya, and Karonga equalised four minutes later through Ninason Mbewe.

Staine Dave who replaced Clement Chipala restored the lead in the 80th minute and Chimwemwe Idana made it 4-2 in added time.

Despite the win Silver coach Peter Mponda accused his charges of  complacency.

“We are happy with the win but not the performance of the team. Karonga were much better than us. Unfortunately for them they didn’t get anything. I think we were very complacent. The players did not turn up despite scoring good goals,” he said.

Oscar Kaunda blamed the loss on officiation.

“We played good football though things didn’t go well for us. I blame the referees in the past three games. They have made unfair decisions towards us. Maybe we should be giving them something like a bag of rice,” he said.
