Cup Bullets, Nomads legends cheer patients, coach
The group’s general secretary Rahim Ishmael described the presentation of various groceries worth K500 000 at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) children’s ward and the donation of K100 000 cash and foodstuffs worth K150 000 to former Bullets coach Lloyd Nkhwazi on Saturday as a big relief.
He said they are also expected to present K250 000 to the ailing former Flames and Civil Service United coach Alex Masanjala, who is now based in Chikwawa District.
“We are now relieved to have finally fulfilled the pledge we made when we hosted the legends’ matches at Kamuzu Stadium back in March,” said Ishmail in the company of fellow legends Mzee Jossam, Ojukwu Malunga, Isaac Msuku, Robert Ng’ambi, Grant Lungu, Safalao Pompi and Simplex Nthara.
Nkhwazi, who last coached a top-flight league club in 2018 at Dwangwa United, said he felt honoured that the former Bullets and Wanderers players considered him as one of the beneficiaries.
“I do not take it for granted that you have visited and given me these groceries and cash. I am very grateful and thank you so much,” he said.
At QECH children’s ward, one of the guardians Tereza Thole from Chikwawa thanked the legends for the timely support. She urged other well-wishers to follow suit as the need for such assistance is huge.
“We thank you for the items you have given us. Keep up the good work and may God bless you in everything,” she said.
The legend’s Blantyre derby, which saw Wanderers Legends beating Bullets Legends 3-2 on post-match penalties after regulation time ended one-all, grossed K8.5 million in gate revenue with the legends’ coffers getting at least K4.4million. Prior to the derby, the legends organised the CIC Insurance seven-a-side social football tournament, which raised K1.4 million.
