Nation Publications Limited Photojournalist Thoko Chikondi has been beaten by one of the security officers at Parliament when she was taking pictures of Consumer Association of Malawi (Cama) executive director John Kapito after he presented the petition to the Speaker.

The matter has so far been reported to Lingadzi Police where some of the witnesses have had their statements taken.

According to Bright Sonani, NPL reporter who was with Chikondi at the time of the incidence: “We were sent to Kamuzu Central Hospital for a medical report to be presented to the Police but since the hospital was closed for lunch we are going back at around 13.30”.

Although Thoko is still up she is complaining of general body pains and internal pains on one of the eyes, the camera which apparently seemed to be the target of the assault, has had its lens cover missing but the camera itself is still functional.
