Former Mighty Wanderers defender Ojukwu Malunga was last Saturday elected chairperson of Former Football Players Association (South) chairperson at Kamuzu Upper Stadium in Blantyre.

But Lovemore Fazili, Wilfred Nyalugwe and Edgar Mbalinga, who were interim chairpersons in the Central, Eastern and the Northern regions, respectively retained their positions as FFPA did not have enough funds to conduct elections in all regions.

Lawrence Mnenula is Malunga’s deputy while John Phiri, Thom Milanzi and Elia Kananji are treasurer, vice-treasurer and publicity secretary respectively. Afiki Sikelo, Chikondi Banda, Mabvuto Lungu, Weston Chifutwe, Davie Kaira and Alex Chipeta are now committee members in the Southern Region.

In the Centre, Fazili is deputised by Austin Nyondo whereas Willie Cham’bwinja is the publicity secretary. Their committee members are James Mandambwe, Philip Nyasulu, Patrick Chimlambe, Charles Malungo and Hendrix Banda.

In the East, Nyalugwe will be assisted by vice-chairperson Noxy Saka and committee members Happy Phiri, Charles Kapasula and Harold Mulembo.

In the North, Mbalinga has Temwa Msuku as his second-in-command. The executive committee comprises Davie Muyombe, Kid Society Mhango and Stereo Gondwe.

According to Malunga, the Southern Region treasurer Phiri will also be in charge of the association’s coffers in the other regions to ensure efficiency.

“Our priorities are to ensure that players live happily and be financially stable after retiring from football. However, we would also like to get involved in HIV and Aids awareness campaigns,” he said.
