Paramount Holdings, 3 others charged in procurement case

The Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court has summoned Paramount Holdings and its three directors to answer three charges related to government procurement deals.

According to a charge sheet dated August 2 2023, the accused Prakash Virgi Ghedia, Arvindkumar, Atit Patel, Suresh Khimji Jagatiya and Paramount Holdings Ltd where the three are directors, have been charged with three counts each.

Reads the charge sheet in part, “Where as your presence is necessary to answer the charge(s) attached and set out. You are hereby required to appear in person before this court on the 11th day of August, 2023.”

The charges are; conspiracy to commit a felony which is contrary to Section 404 of the Penal Code, making a false document that is contrary to Section 353 of the Penal Code and uttering false document that is contrary to Section 360 of the Penal Code.

The details of the case, according to the charge sheet are that the three being directors of Paramount Holdings Ltd in Malawi, in August, 2020 made a false document showing that Paramount Holdings is an authorised dealer of Yamaha Motorcycles in Malaŵi on behalf of Yamaha Motor Company Ltd of Japan when the same was not true.

The document was then uttered to Malawi government ministries and other institutions to win tenders for the supply of Yamaha motor cycles.

“The accused on or about August, 2020 uttered a false document to Ministry of Education, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Health, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, UNC Project and Jphiego to win tenders for the supply of motor cycles showing that Paramount Holdings Ltd is an authorised dealer of Yamaha motor cycles in Malaŵi on behalf of Yamaha Motor Company Ltd of Japan,” further reads the charge sheet.
