Pasuwa highest paid coach
FCB Nyasa Bullets head coach stands at the summit as the highest paid coach in the TNM Super League with a salary of $6 050 (about K10.89 million) ahead of the 2024 season.
Weekend Nation has also established that newly-appointed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers gaffer Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan comes second having been offered a $3 500 (about K6.3 million) salary in his one-year deal.
Silver Strikers newly-appointed coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda is third with a K5 million salary, the highest among the locals.
Newly-promoted Creck Sporting Club’s coach McDonald ‘Nginde’ Mtetemera comes fourth on K1.4 million.
Pasuwa, who led the People’s Team to a quadruple last season, is in the final year of his three-year contract.
His initial salary was $5 000, but his contract has a clause of a 10 percent hike annually.
A source confided in Weekend Nation that Pasuwa is also entitled to other benefits such as K300 000 fuel allowance, a similar amount in game bonus for a win, K200 000 communication allowance and a K100 000 monthly training allowance.
The former Zimbabwe National Football Team and Dynamos FC coach is also entitled to a 10 percent cut whenever Bullets win silverware.
He is also entitled to a house and fully paid for DStv.
Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga yesterday said he would revert on the coach’s perks, but had not done so at press time at 5pm.
At Wanderers, a source said Ramadhan, who was offered a one-year contract, is also entitled to a fully-furnished house, a vehicle, fuel allowance “and other performance-related benefits”.
Nomads’ board secretary Chancy Gondwe said: “Issues of earnings are confidential issues. I don’t know where you get your information.
He said: “If it is true that our head coach is the second highest paid coach in Malawi, it reflects our commitment then to investing in top talent and leadership for our team. This demonstrates our belief in his abilities and the value he brings to the club.”
“High expectations naturally come with the level of investment we have made in our coaching staff. We have full confidence in coach Ramadan’s capabilities to lead the team to success, and we are focused on achieving our goals and objectives for the season.”
Gondwe said their aim is to work together as a united team, “both on and off the field, to bring the best results for the club and our supporters”.
On their part, Silver CEO Patrick Chimimba said in an interview yesterday that they have offered Mponda a “competitive package”.
He said: “I cannot not confirm the figure, but we have given him a package that includes a vehicle and accommodation.
“We believe in honouring and providing all necessary support to our local coaches and that is what we have done with Mr. Peter Mponda.
“With the package that we have given him our expectations is that he will work diligently to meet to meet our strategic vision.”
National Football Coaches Association chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni said they are happy that there is an improved package for local coaches.
He said: “Coaches are now being offered good packages and generally, their welfare has improved.
“We hope that spirit will continue, and having said that, I urge the clubs to have confidence in local coaches. This does not mean that they should not go for foreign coaches, actually Ramadhan and Pasuwa have always been part of us and this is their second home.”
