Patriots give Mangochi DHOK2.16bn medical supplies
The Patriots under the Malawi Initiative have donated a 40-foot container of medical equipment worth K2.16 billion to Mangochi District Health Office (DHO).
The consignment, sourced from Project Cure USA and Islamic Relief USA, marks the ninth deployment in the group’s landmark 100-container “Health System Strengthening” initiative aimed at improving healthcare access in both rural and urban districts.

Speaking during the handover ceremony yesterday, Patriots board member Leniah Bonongwe, representing board chairperson Kamuzu Chibambo, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to extend the initiative to all district health facilities in Malawi.
“It remains our commitment to mobilise resources and medical equipment to reach more health facilities across the country as one way of ensuring that people get access to health services to improve their health statuses,” she said.
Bonongwe also urged communities to own the equipment and join efforts in advancing the country’s healthcare system.
Mangochi District Hospital director of health services Henry Chibowa Junior commended the donation, noting that it will help address persistent challenges in the district’s health facilities.
He said the country strives to reduce maternal mortality rate to 70 deaths per 100 000 live births by 2030, and the equipment will complement these efforts.
“The new equipment will ease pressure in critical care and improve service delivery,” said Chibowa.
On his part, Traditional
Authority (T/A) Mapira said the assistance is timely, stating that it will go a long way in improving the health status of people in the district.
The consignment includes intensive care unit beds, patient monitors, laboratory supplies, maternity and emergency care equipment and diagnostic tools.
These items were selected through coordination between the Patriots’ Malawi diaspora partners and the Mangochi District Hospital
