Peter Banda dislocates shoulder
Flames team manager James Sangala says midfielder Peter Banda’s shoulder injury is serious as he will not be available for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier second leg against Egypt’s Pharaohs on Tuesday.
The two sides clash at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe after the hosts triumphed 2-0 in the first leg at Air Force Stadium in Cairo, Egypt on Friday.
The Simba SC player was introduced in the second half for Francisco Madinga.
However, he only stayed on the pitch for 20 minutes only and was pulled out in the 70th minute following an injury.
Flames coach Mario Marinica then brought in Mozambique-based Yamikani Chester in his place.
Banda, who rejuvenated the Flames attack had to be rushed to the hospital.
Giving an update on the injury, Sangala said the player was initially expected back in action on Tuesday in the return match.
He said: “Peter [Banda]dislocated his shoulder.
“It’s a chronic injury. But he is okay now and available.”
The Flames arrived in the country yesterday after travelling in two groups.
Sangala said: “The first group arrived in Lilongwe via Kamuzu International Airport while the other one came through Blantyre’s Chileka Airport. We are currently on our way to Lilongwe.”
The Pharaohs scored both goals in the first half with Liverpool star Mohammed Salah on target in the 20th minute before he set up Omar Marmoush just before half time.
