Police, communities unite to fight crime
Police in Central East Region have commended the collaboration between police and communities in ensuring safety and security of people and property in the region.
The region’s Commissioner Rhoda Manjolo said this on Wednesday when she presided over a security review meeting between senior police officers and regional community policing executive committee members.

She said: “It is not possible that there can be a police officer everywhere all the time. So we have to collaborate with the communities if we are to achieve security in our region.
“I am happy to report that so far, our relationship with community members is good. It is this kind of cooperation that has helped to make our region peaceful and secure.”
Manjolo also asked community policing forums to help in preventing election-related violence ahead of the September 16 General Election.
In an interview, Central East Region Police Community Policing Forum chairperson Abid Mehmood emphasised the need for communities to be part of the security system.
He said: “Generally, there is security in our region, largely because there is a good working relationship between communities and the police.
“We applaud the police for conducting frequent patrols and ensuring that they are always on the ground. On our part, we are trying our best to assist them as they try to make our region safe.”
Established in July 2020, Central East Region comprises police formations such as Kasungu, Dowa, Mponela, Ntchisi, Nkhotakota, Nkhunga and Salima, serving a population of over 3.1 million
